The Chewere Cichlid comes from Chewere Reef in Lake Malawi, Africa. The Elongatus ruarwe is an attractive Mbuna and gets its common name “Neon Spot” From its striking appearance. Male Neon Spots develop a deep dark black colouration with bright blue spots along the top of the body looking almost iridescent “neon” Neon Spots, like most mbuna, need a high amount of green matter in their diet. Otherwise, they are very prone to developing Malawi bloat which is difficult to treat and often fatal.
